‘Sophia Strong’: 12-Year-Old Survivor of Minneapolis Church Shooting Released from Hospital

Twelve-year-old Sophia Forchas, who was shot in the head

during the Aug. 27 attack at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis,

was released from the hospital on Oct. 23 — a moment her parents called “one of the most extraordinary days of our lives.”

Sophia, the most seriously wounded survivor, was struck in the left temporal lobe,

with the bullet lodged in her right occipital lobe.

Her neurosurgeon once feared she could become “the third fatality.”

After weeks of intensive care and brain surgery, Sophia’s recovery has amazed doctors.

Her parents, Amy and Thomas Forchas, thanked medical staff, saying,

“We will never forget the world-class care that carried us through.”

They added that Sophia is “walking, swimming, and even dribbling a basketball.”

Following her release, hospital staff greeted her with “Sophia Strong” banners and birthday wishes.

A GoFundMe supporting her recovery has raised over $1 million.
