Should You Remove the Bedding or Make U

You close the door, suitcase in hand, heart pounding with one ridiculous question: what do I do with the bed?

Make it? Strip it? Leave it?

One tiny decision, yet it can silently define you as “thoughtful” or “never again.” Guests overthink it, hosts rarely say it.

What you do with the bed when you leave isn’t about linens; it’s about respect, boundaries, and how well you read the room.

With close family, you can usually relax: ask if they’d like you to strip the bed, but don’t be surprised if they wave you off and handle it themselves.

In more formal spaces—like a B&B, guest suite, or hosted Airbnb—leaving the bed neatly stripped and gathered in one place is a small act that speaks loudly: “I know this is work for you, and I appreciate it.”

When you’re unsure, ask a single, disarming question: “Would you like me to strip the bed or just leave it made?” That moment of consideration matters more than whatever they answer.

For short stays, a tidy, made bed is usually enough; for longer visits, stripping the sheets is a gracious extra step.

Check for forgotten items, leave the room as you’d hope to find it, and let those quiet details say thank you long after you’ve gone.
